About the Event
Days for Girls International has a mission to achieve menstrual equity everywhere. Period. They increase access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating Social Enterprises, mobilizing volunteers, and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigma and limitations for women and girls.
Join the Champaign-Urbana Days for Girls Team to learn about their work locally and help create carry pouches and liners!
At this meeting, we will be ironing, cutting fabric and sewing these two components. You'll also get to see the hybrid kits we are supplying to Cunningham Township!
We have jobs for sewers and non-sewers alike, all are welcome!
If you are able, please bring at least one yard of pre-washed flannel fabric that fit these Gold Standard guidelines:
- Stain-hiding: bright, colorful, busy
- Culturally neutral, globally accepted:
- botanicals (including fruits and vegetables), geometrics, batiks
- butterflies & ladybugs (no faces or eyes)
- uplifting words (love, friendship, beautiful, etc.)
- Able to pass the “yard test” and the “gift test:” Is the fabric stain-hiding enough to hang in your front yard? Would you proudly give it as a gift?
Please also bring the following items if you have them: sewing machine, serger, polyester thread, scissors, rotary cutter, cutting mat
Special note: If you have a serger that you're scared to use, bring it and the manual, and we'll work together to get you up and running!
